Even though Alex is considered new to the sport of skeleton compared to his seasoned competitors, he has managed to accomplish a great deal in the past six seasons. Encouraged by his mother Cindy to try out Skeleton after seeing an ad in the local newspaper, he was quick to make an impression on the sliding world. His adaptability to the new sport was not surprising given his success in track and field, hockey and soccer. Having excelled at track and field in the sprint events from the age of 13, Alex went on to win multiple junior national titles in Norway. He continued to develop his sprinting talent as a varsity athlete while attending Dalhousie University for his undergrad, specifically in the 60m. His talent in this distance has been crucial to his success in skeleton thus far. In 2012 Alex first tried skeleton and by 2015 he held the ice house start record at Canadas Olympic Park. The record is challenged by some of the best skeleton athletes in the world every season and it still stands in Alex’s name. Having firmly established himself as one of the best starters in the world after his Olympic debut in South Korea, Alex has a very real chance to medal at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. In the coming four years Alex will focus heavily on his driving skills, something that can be likened to trying to thread a needle in the back of a fighter jet.
Alex is determined to be one of the world’s best at the 2022 Olympics and his steady improvement in the sport indicates he can make this goal a reality. To stay on his intended path Alex must travel to several world cups during the winter seasons, maintain equipment and train daily. To continue with his Olympic dream and the demands of this sport Alex requires financial assistance. If you would like to help him in any capacity please do not hesitate to get in touch.
